E-health insurance for HIPAA. (Briefly). - Health Management Technology

A professional liability insurance policy is now available to protect healthcare organizations against the cost of potential HIPAA violations with electronic-based and Web-enabled transactions, especially in managed care settings. Offered by Healthcare First, a unit of the Brokerage Services Division of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., the updated policy is designed to help indemnify policy holders from damages resulting from HIPAA events, such as unauthorized disclosures of protected health information arising from security violations. The policy does not cover fines the government might levy against a healthcare organization for HIPAA violations. The eHealth/Internet Liability Policy will continue to be underwritten by Mt. Hawley Insurance Co., a subsidiary of RLI Corp., and will provide premium discounts to URAC-accredited companies.
